Šuica and Stier on a digital Europe and antiterrorism measures in Toledo

President of the Croatian EPP Delegation in the European Parliament Dubravka Šuica and EPP Coordinator in the Parliamentary Committee for Development Davor Ivo Stier are participating in a meeting of the Presidency of the European People's Party (EPP), the largest group in the European Parliament, today and tomorrow in Toledo.

EPP leaders are meeting at a time when Europe faces a number of challenges in order to define the legislative priorities of the European Union, with special emphasis on the digital single market, which has an increasingly important role in the economies across the EU and which will further strengthen the leading economic position of the Union.

After the terrorist attacks in the newsroom of a satirical magazine in Paris, great attention has been paid to the creation of effective instruments and measures to combat terrorism. The expanded meeting of the presidency of the EPP was opened by the host, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, who is also the leader of the Partido Popular (EPP), in the presence of the President of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, and European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, Elzbieta Bienkowski.

EPP members believe that the fight against terrorism should be a priority at local and at national levels, and that it should be in the common European plan to ensure the safety of citizens while respecting basic human rights such as freedom and democracy. Also, it is important to establish a mechanism to develop methods for identifying the causes of terrorist acts, all in accordance with the law and the legal framework of the EU and standards for the protection of fundamental human rights.
