During today's third session of the City Council of the City of Dubrovnik, Dubravka Šuica (HDZ) initiated the topic of Dubrovnik's candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2020.
She noted that the City Council should put the European Capital of Culture on the agenda because, with the help of European funds, it is a unique opportunity for Dubrovnik to become a European Capital of Culture and this is a chance to get, for example, a concert hall and to expand tourism to the whole year. Dubrovnik would then spread cultural tourism to 365 days a year!
˝Is there a city better than Dubrovnik to apply for this competition?˝, asked Šuica.
The most important objective is for the project to encourage discussion about the future of the city. This is not a classic cultural festival aimed at entertaining the audience, rather it is an event that encourages change.
