On the occasion of the Day of Remembrance for the victims of Vukovar and Škabrnja, Croatian Members of European Parliament organized a commemorative memorial service and prayer led by the head of the Croatian Catholic Mission in Brussels, Fr. Tomo Anđelić. At the very beginning Manfred Weber, President of the EPP Group, addressed those gathered. The memorial service was attended by many MEPs: Andrej Plenković, Davor Ivo Stier, Ivana Maletić, Marijana Petir, Tonino Picula, Biljana Borzan, Jozo Radoš, Alojz Peterle, Tunne Kelam, Bogdan Wenta, and Dubravka Šuica, the head of the Croatian EPP Delegation in the European Parliament, also adressed those present.
Škabrnja, along with Vukovar, is a symbol of the suffering of the Croatian Homeland War and 18 November marks the Day of Remembrance for the victims from the City of Heroes in 1991, which due to its long-term resistance, siege, and destruction became a symbol of the Homeland War.
