At the plenary session in Strasbourg, Members of European Parliament overwhelmingly adopted a proposal for an emergency resolution on the topic: "Serbia: the case of indicted war criminal Šešelj", initiated by the Croatian MEPs, most prominent amon which was Plenković. On this occasion the Head of the Croatian EPP / HDZ Delegation Dubravka Šuica emphasized:
"I strongly condemn the warmongering rhetoric and the insults towards the victims of the war in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the inappropriate statement on the day of the fall of Vukovar. This policy has no place in the 21st century Europe. The idealogy of a Greater Serbia, and because of the aspirations on Croatia, was the starting point of the war in the former Yugoslavia. The policy wrought death, crimes and destroyed the cities of Vukovar and Dubrovnik. Hate speech and territorial claims made by mentioning 'Greater Serbia' would be at the present time be funny, if not tragic, if it did not remind us of that sad time in the '90s. It was then that we received freedom thanks only to the courage of Croatian soldiers who did not fear for their lives, alone and without the help of the international community. Today, when Croatia is a full member of NATO and the European Union, we can not allow for a member of the two organizations to be treated as such. We do not want even the prospect of a thought that peace and stability in South Eastern Europe would be undermined. That's why this resolution sends a message to Serbia and to the authorities in Belgrade to clearly condemn the latest appearances and hate speech in their territory, in view of their intention to respect European values and EU accession."
