As preparation for the Summit on Climate Change in Lima in December of this year, today there was a debate in the European Parliament. A resolution which will be the basis for negotiations in Lima was adopted, which should lead to a new agreement in Paris, and which will replace the well-known Kyoto Protocol.

 
''We have to be concerned about the survival of the planet because, apart from the human species, there are other living beings at risk, and therefore it is necessary to reach a global agreement, but, with binding targets. Here the European Union leads the way, as does the European Parliament in particular and with this resolution we have predicted targets of 40% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, 27% renewable energy and 27% energy efficiency and that the obligations of all 28 EU countries should be applied until 2030. However, since the EU accounts for only 10% of greenhouse gas emissions in contrast to the US and China, which account for 50%, it is difficult to have a pioneering role in the fight against climate change, however, all the bodies of the Union are persistent and believe that all major industrial powers, such as Russia and India, should be included as well as developing countries in need of financial assistance in order to turn towards green economies and green growth. As a result of this policy, we can predict job creation, and all along the lines of Juncker's program for jobs, growth and an investment package of 300 billion euros. We should not forget the commitment here of the EU to the global reduction in temperature of 2 °C by 2050,'' said Dubravka Šuica.
 
Member of European Parliament Šuica once again reminded us of the old Indian proverb that says that this land is borrowed from our descendants, so it our common responsibility for its preservation is huge.
