At the Mini Plenary Session of the European Parliament in Brussels, Member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Dubravka Šuica participated in the debate in which the European Commission Vice President Šefčovič presented the Commission Decision on a Strategic Framework for the Energy Union.
˝I welcome the launch of the Energy Union project more than 60 years after the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community. Given the fragmented energy system in 28 countries, a common policy is necessary and it is unacceptable that some countries such as Russia use their energy resources for political trading and pressure˝, said MEP Šuica.
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker recently presented an investment plan in the amount of 315 billion euros that will encourage growth, create new jobs and help to adapt the European economy to challenges facing the EU. This Investment Plan for Europe is designed to release funds from banks and the private sector.
˝The fact is that most of the energy in the European Union is imported, more than 55 percent, and it is also a fact that our infrastructure is outdated and this is why it is good that energy security is high on the Commission's agenda. Since I come from Croatia, I want especially point out the LNG terminal project, which will hopefully be built on Krk Island because it will significantly contribute to the energy independence of Croatia and Europe˝ concluded Šuica.
