Have you ever seen a statue like this one somewhere in Europe?
It’s no less than Roland (or Orlando), a famous knight, hero and martyr from the 8th century. There are many statues dedicated to him, but the one in Dubrovnik was the last one outside EU-borders… until Croatia joined this year! He is thus a strong symbol of Croatia’s place in the EU’s common history.
Rolands’ presence in various European cities is the inspiration of “Roland’s European Paths”, a multimedia project by Adriana Kremenjaš-Daničić. She presented her work in our library this week, on invitation of Croatian MEP Dubravka Šuica. Also present was MEP Doris Pack, who expressed her fondness of Croatian culture.
