Extraordinary elections for the President of the HDZ - The Croatian Democratic Union were held on Sunday, July 17, 2016. Member of the European Parliament Dubravka Šuica voted at a polling station in Dubrovnik where she used her vote to support the candidate Andrej Plenković for President of the HDZ.
Mr. Plenković also voted in Dubrovnik, excercising his right to vote outside of his place of residence, which is a special honour for Dubrovnik.
Members of the HDZ elected the president of the party on the principle of "one member - one vote", at polling stations run by city, county, and and regional election commissions.
With 97,823 votes, Andrej Plenković became the new president of the HDZ, and in September he will represent the party in the parliamentary elections and will ensure victory so that Croatia can finally turn towards the future and betterment.
"I am especially proud that our colleague Andrej Plenković, Member of the European Parliament, became the president of the HDZ - Croatian Democratic Union, as this is also a guarantee that the HDZ and Croatia will have a new direction for the future and for the well-being of all citizens. The priority is to create a stable and motivating environment for entrepreneurship and development, which will lead to employment for youth and economic recovery, which are pillars of our campaign, but will also position Croatia as a full member of the European Union." - Stated MEP Šuica and added that she believes that when he wins the parliamentary elections in September her colleague Plenković will take Croatia into a better future and will restore the confidence of our citizens!
