Member of European Parliament and President of the Croatian EPP/HDZ delegation in the European Parliament, Dubravka Šuica, sent a letter of condolence upon the death of the President of the European People's Party Wilfried Martens. In a letter sent to President of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, Joseph Daul, President of EPP Women Doris Pack, MEPs belonging to the European People's Party and the family of the late President of the European People's Party Martens, Šuica expressed regret and condolences for the loss of one of greatest politicians of the 20th century.
˝Wilfried Martens served his country as Belgium's prime minister in 9 coalition governments which makes him one of the most prominent people in the Belgian political scene. He gave immeasurable contributions to the grouping of centre-right parties in the umbrella organization of the European People's Party. We absolutely cannot ignore his strong support for the Republic Croatia on the road to EU accession. The loss of Mr. Martens has hit all of us, but his actions oblige us to even more devoted to work for the benefit of the European Union,˝ said Šuica.
